Bhutan

Bhutan was always going to be a special place… but it was even more so because I got to see it with my mom. She flew over from Oregon and met up with me in Thailand, then we headed to Burma and Bhutan. I’d wanted to see Tiger’s Nest Monastery for as long as I could remember. So we did the four mile hike up a Himalayan mountainside, and when we rounded the corner to gaze on it for the first time, I got a lump in my throat. Bhutan is a land of enchanting people and vistas. The country is also famous for measuring the welfare of its people by a Gross National Happiness index… an idea that needs to spread.
